IN ALL THINGS, ALLIANCE MATTERS. ASHANTI AND ANLO KINGDOMS

In all things, alliance matters. In everything, alliance is very important. To build a stronger and more resilient Kingdom that will last for centuries, you make alliances. In all, you don't ally with a weaker state or kingdom, instead, you ally with a stronger neighbouring or faraway state or kingdom. In the days of war, alliance was formed for mutual protection, trading purposes, easy penetration, war tactics and new war strategies.
There is a reason why we have, Anlo Kotoko, Dagomba Kotoko and Nzema Kotoko being the three main alliances of Asante (Asante Kotoko) also located in different geographical areas in Ghana. Dagbon to the North, Anlo to South-East and Nzema to the West. Wala Kindom in present day Wa area in the Upper West Region is a direct friend of Asante. Akwamu yɛ Abusua prɛkopɛ.

And to seal this alliance forever, there is a reason why Asantehene gave lands for the establishment of Anloga, Dagomba line, and Agric Nzema in Kumasi, our capital. Akwamu people established present-day Adum (Anum) in Kumasi.
Even in this contemporary world, if a country or a state does not have an alliance, then there is no solid ground for such a country. How will you survive? Since the genesis of time, the world has evolved through wars and conquerors. From the days of the Israelites, the Egyptians, the Romans, Byzantine Empires etc, the world was built on war. Even in our world, war is still going on everywhere. The only thing that has changed is the weapon being used and the new strategy.

The relationship between Asante and Anlo state has evolved since the 1800s, as Otumfuo said in 2019, "Asantes and Anlos never fought, instead, we went to war together, we did things together. It is politicians and their politics that always want to divide us on the tribal line".  One of the most successful marriages in our post-colonial Ghana was between an Asante woman and an Anlo man. JJ Rawlings and Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings. History remembers this.

When the Late ruler of Anlo, Torgbui Adeladza II died in 1998, the then Asantehene, Otumfuo Opoku Ware sent gold dust and other items for burial and funeral rites of the late Awoamefia of Anlo. Traditionally, the Asantehene is the one who buries the Anlo Awoamefia.

At the back of politics, there is still Asante-Anlo Alliance, and we hold it in high esteem. To the glory of Togbui Sri III, to the glory of Anlo State and the glory of Hogbetsotso Za, and the glory of Asante Kotoko and Anlo Kotoko.
