MADAM GIFTY AYEH EULOGISES REV. FREDERICK MAWUENYEGAH LAWLUVI, SAYING THE ANLO STATE HAS LOST ANOTHER GENIUS
The only female in the recent New Patriotic Party (NPP) national chairmanship race, Madam Gifty Ayeh, aka Daavi Ama has described the passing of the late Rev. Frederick Mawuenyega Lawluvi of the Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P) Church, Ghana as a huge and bitter blow not only to the Church but also to the Anlo State, the Volta Region and Ghana as a whole. According to her, the late Rev. Lawluvi was a great pillar of the Bremen Mission Church and a genius that every humble, honest, hardworking and focused individual would like to emulate.
In a release eulogizing the memory of the late Pastor and Catechist, Madam Ayeh who is also a daughter of the Volta Region, noted that words, phrases and all manner of quotations cannot satisfactorily describe the personality of Reverend Frederick Mawuenyega Lawluvi. ‘A simple, humble, courageous, dynamic, hardworking, visionary and a level-headed leader as well as a chief disciplinarian he was!’, Daavi Ama emphasized.

Madam Ayeh noted that Rev. Frederick Mawuenyegah Lawluvi was God-fearing and a man of principle who did not only believe in what he believed was the truth and just but also stood firm in every situation of life whether positive or negative. ‘Why wouldn’t the thousands and millions of people he led, nurtured, transformed, imparted and impacted in life, feel sad, devastated and miss him for the rest of their lives?’, she asked.
She was also of the view that Rev. Frederick Mawuenyegah Lawluvi had made history in life, adding that she would not hesitate to describe him as one of the very few authentic men of God that she had come to know, feel, appreciate, respect and see in recent times. ‘I have come across several men and women of God in my 72 years of life who do not show or reflect their preaching in their lives in order to encourage their congregants to emulate them. Rev. Lawluvi was not only totally different but also a true leader who espoused all the qualities and features of what he preached and said. He was indeed a leader by example! He was a leader that that all humble, God-fearing and positive-minded leaders would always want to hear and also emulate at all cost’, Madam Ayeh pointed out.
She explained that Rev. Lawluvi would preach in less than ten (10) minutes because of his strong believe beyond any reasonable doubt that long sermons did not always and only send congregants to sleep but also made some of them refuse to go to church. Madam Ayeh also intimated that the sermons of the late Rev. F.M. Lawluvi were brought home with rich Ewe proverbs and adages that made impact on the lives of millions of people, adding that Osofo Bubutor Lawluvi Frederick Mawuenyegah was not far from being described as ‘The Pastor of the Century’.
Madam Gifty Ayeh said a lot of the rich sermons of the late Rev. Lawluvi still remained fresh in her mind. She recalled one of such powerful sermons he delivered at Anyako some years ago in which the iconic man of God stated and pleaded, ‘Lord, let me not be so poor that I cannot even afford a meal and to that extent ask that where is God?’ He added, ‘Lord, let me not be too rich and consequently lose my sense and ask, who is God?’ According to Daavi Ama, this is the kind of humble and simple personality the thousands and millions are eulogizing today.
Madam Ayeh also recalled the role of the late Rev. Frederick Mawuenyegah Lawluvi in building the solid E.P. that we have today. She noted that during the religious crisis that hit the E.P. Church in the 1980s, Rev. F.M. Lawluvi did not only stand firm to defend the good image, virtues and principles of the church but also fought very hard for more than twenty (20) years with his contemporaries like Rev. Mensah Abbey and the Very Rev. Japhet Yao Ledo amongst others to restore sanity, peace and justice to the E.P. Church that is still cherished today. ‘He was simply an epitome of a pragmatic, magnanimous and an honest leader of our time’, Daavi Ama emphasized.
Madam Ayeh described Rev. Frederick Mawuenyegah Lawluvi as a man with a traditionalist background who understood culture and tradition, saying all these skills, attributes and knowledge contributed in no small measure to his success story in life. ‘I can confidently describe him as the Abraham of our time having also chalked such an enviable age of ninety-four (94) years on this earth’, she intimated.
Madam Ayeh prayed and hoped that these deeds and attributes would surely follow Rev. Frederick Mawuenyegah Lawluvi wherever his soul would find itself as a final resting place. As Rev. Lawluvi himself described Paradise as the 7th heaven for people with tranquility and self-realization in one of his sermons, she was convinced that he would be resting peacefully in the bosom of the Lord.

Rev. Frederick Mawuenyega Lawluvi was born on 20th May, 1927 at Anyako in the current Keta Municipality of the Volta Region to Mr. Cephas Kwasikpui Lawluvi of Anyako and Madam Charity Hobudi Nazah of Alakple and Anyako, both of blessed memory. Reverend Lawluvi was the fifth of eleven siblings.
He had a rich and an enviable educational background. He had his elementary education at the Anlo Awoamefia School, Anyako from 1935 to 1943 and continued to the New Africa University College (NAFRICO), now Zion College of Anloga for his secondary education from 1944 to 1948. He later enrolled at the Achimota Teacher Training College for the Teacher’s Certificate ‘A’ course between1950 and 1951; trained as a Catechist in the E.P. Church Seminary, Peki in 1954; pursued History Specialist Course at the St. Francis Training College, Hohoe from 1964 to 1966; graduated with Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religious Studies from the University of Ghana, Legon at the ripe age of 49; obtained Post Graduate Certificate in Education/Guidance and Counseling in 1976 at the University of Cape Coast and finally did a Specialist Course in Auditing in Ministry at the Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, United States of America in 1987. In the year 1953, the late Rev. F. M. Lawluvi entered the E.P. Church, Ghana Seminary at Peki and passed out in 1954 as a Catechist. This enabled him to work as a teacher-cum-catechist in the educational institutions and the E.P. Church.

On 17th of July, 1974, the mother passed on and soon after that painful experience, the then Catechist F.M. Lawluvi embarked on the final journey to become a Reverend Minister in fulfillment of the vow the mother made to God when he was born. On the 14th of August 1977, Reverend Lawluvi was ordained at the Dela Cathedral of the E.P. Church at Ho together with his contemporaries like Rev. Seth K. Asamoah, Rev. Dr. Livingstone Komla Buamah (of blessed memory), Rev. Andrews Koku Fiagbe (of blessed memory) and Rev. Joy Kowudade during the tenure of Rev. Christian Kobla Dovlo as Moderator of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana.

Rev. Frederick Mawuenyega Lawluvi served as a Catechist from 1954 to 1976 and a Reverend Minister from 14th August 1977 until he officially retired in 1987 but continued to pastor the Agorve/Avume and Anloga congregations of the church.

He was married to Madam Constancia Worlanyo Segbawu on 29th Ocvtober, 1960. The union was blessed with five (5) children of whom three (three) are alive. His wife passed on to eternity on 18th December 2002. Five (5) years later, he lost his first born and first daughter. Being human, these painful events tested his faith but his belief in the Sovereignty of God sustained his faith throughout the rest of his life.

Rev. Frederick Mawuenyega Lawluvi played other roles of great significance. He was a member of the Constituent Assembly which from January to March, 1979 formulated the 1979 Constitution for the 3rd Republic of Ghana. He was also a Panel Member of the Community Tribunal at the District Court, Anloga in the1990s.
The late Rev. Frederick Mawuenyega Lawluvi would be laid to rest at Anyako today after a scheduled burial service in his honour at the E. P. Church, Ghana, Bremen Mission at Anyako. The memorial service which is expected to be attended by thousands of mourners from all walks of life, would be under the auspices of the Moderator of the General Assembly of the E.P. Church, Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Col. B. D. K. Agbeko (Retd) and the Clerk of the General Assembly of the Church, Rev. Dr. L. K. Dzanku.
