FENYITO DEVELOPMENT PROJECTI. Introduction:Fenyito is apredominantly fishing and farming island community located in the Anlo District of the Volta Region of Ghana. Apart from fishing and farming, the inhabitants of Fenyito are also involved in mat weaving an brewing of the local gin (akpeteshie) for a living. Fenyito has a population of about 200 people of which about 50% are males and the other 50 % females.The main crop cultivated by the indigenes of Fenyito is sugarcane. Other crops include cassava, sweet potatoes, maize and vegetables. To visit Fenyito, one will have to travel by road to Benadzi the closest village, trek on foot for about 15 minutes and cross the Agorve River once during the dry season but twice during the wet season. The people of Fenyito are warm, friendly and very hospitable.II. Background:The TBD Ministries, an international non-denominational Christian organization with its headquarters in Dansoman, Accra, under its rural outreach and humanitarian wing known as the In-Keeper Project, discovered Fenyito in April 2019 whiles undertaking some rural outreach survey in the southern part of the Volta Region. What attracted the attention of the In-Keeper Project of the TBD Ministries to Fenyito were the numerous developmental challenges the people of Fenyito faced. Their challenges included;i. No good canoe for crossing the Agorve River.ii. No educational facility in the village.iii. Difficulty in accessing quality education by children due to the river.iv. Lack of potable water.v. Lack of toilet facility.vi. No healthcare facility in the village.vii. Difficulty in accessing healthcare outside the village due to the river.viii. Difficulty in transporting farm produce and other goods to the nearest market.These major challenges made life very difficult for the inhabitants of Fenyito, leading to abject poverty and untold hardship.III. Initial Intervention:The In-Keeper Project  of the TBD Ministries produced a video on the plight of Fenyito, which was widely distributed on social media to create awareness and to raise support for them. Jubilee Radio in Keta also featured the video on its morning show programme to create more awareness among its listeners. The impact of this video project has resulted in donations from some well-meaning individuals and organizations to the Fenyito community directly as follows;1. Prof. El Anatsui - 2 Canoes2. Hon. Bright Demordzi - 1 Canoe3. Mad. Gifty Atsu - 1 Canoe4. Volta Union, UK - 1 Canoe5. Volta Union, UK - 5 Full Scholarships to needy Primary and JHS pupils6. Hon. Clement Humado - 1 Old broken down Solar Panel repaired7. Hon. Clement Humado - 2 New Solar PanelsIn addition to the above donations, 2 water storage tanks, fitted with filters, have also been donated to the  Fenyito community by Godhead Foundation  Network through the In-Keeper Project of the TBD Ministries. To further advance the agenda to support the people of Fenyito, the In-Keeper Project of the TBD Ministries, with partnership support from Godhead Foundation Network and Soulwinners International, has undertaken a community engagement and data collection mission in Fenyito in July, 2019.IV. Current Phase of the Fenyito Development Project:The In-Keeper Project of TBD Ministries is moving the development agenda of Fenyito forward by currently receiving partnership support from Godhead Foundation Network and Soulwinners International to raise support to undertake the following projects in Fenyito;i. Construct a 4-cubicle bio-digester toilet for the people of Fenyito.ii. Procure and install a solar-powered water pump to feed the toilets.iii. Procure 2 electronically powered hand mowers for clearing weeds from the canoe pathways in the river during the dry season.iv. Conduct a free Medical Screening programme in Fenyito.V. Budget:The budget for the above mentioned projects are as follows;i. 4-cubicle Bio-digester Toilet - $5,000ii. Solar-powered Water Pump - $1,200iii. 2 Electronically powered Hand Mowers - $600iv. Free Medical Mission – $3,700Total  - $10,500VI.
