BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT AWADADA (WARLORD) STATUSHIP AND LEADERS OF AWALORGOAWO AND THE KAKLAKU STOOL(AWADADA STOOL) OF THE ANLO KINGDOM

BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT AWADADA (WARLORD) STATUSHIP AND LEADERS OF AWALORGOAWO AND THE KAKLAKU STOOL(AWADADA  STOOL) OF THE ANLO  KINGDOM
Awadada, (Warlord), Field Marshal was/is the supreme head of the three military divisions. He is also the frontman (Agbotadua) for the Awormefia, the Anlo king (especially in times of war). He resides in Dome, the central division. The Dome is also referred to as Atsifoame, which houses Akaklaku, the war stool of Awadada, weapons, ammunitions and other military supplies, and awadzikporlawo, directors of military intelligence. It is the reservist war camp which holds out reinforcement for all the three wings.

The Awadada was also Domefiaga. Later Zewu (the Agbotadua, frontman of Awadada came to be recognized as Domefiaga of Anlo. Dusifia is the Fiaga or the head of Dushiwalorgo, the right Military Division/Wing, and Miafia is the Fiaga or head of Miawalorgo, the Left Military Division/Wing. (All the three are expected, by tradition, to live in Anloga so that the Awormefia may fall on them for consultation when the need arises. With the disappearance of inter-ethnic warfare,
however, the pattern appears to be obsolete but has been preserved for purely administrative and organizational purposes).

 ORIGIN OF AWADADA STOOL:
Anlo Oral and written history records that one Anagba had run away with the Kaklaku (Awadada) stool and the sword, Adzoyibada from Tado towards Notsie. On the way, a quarrel arose between him and a hostile group from Tado and Anagba was killed. Anagba's sister  Egbo attempted revenge but was also killed. The remnants of Anagba's party fled with. the stool and successuIIy reached Notsie under the command  of Egbo's elder brother Agor.
When the Dogboawo (as Anlos were called at the time) were leaving Notsie, the command of the Agave Clan fell upon Awusu, a son of Anagba who successfully led a section of the Anlo through Weta where the Agave party split into two; the larger party went to settle at Tornu in Agave, and the smaller party under Awusu and Akaklaku stool and sword reached Anloga. They were nicknamed Agorvegliawo or Gliawo.

Tribute should also be paid to Awadada or Awadzigla Kpotsui who successfully brought Awadetsi, the Rod of Military Encounters of the Dogboawo from Notsie to Anloland during the Anlos’ migration and settlement (the custodian of Awadetsi is responsible for putting the ceremonial robe on a new Awormefia during his installation and leading some state rituals).

SOME LEADERS OF THE ANLO AWALORGOAWO: MILITARY  DIVISIONSIWINGS:
Each Awalorgowo was led by distinguished military leaders during specific historical periods and/or wars. However, it is difficult to find the names of all the leaders due to lack of historical records (especially pertaining to the early period of Anlo military encounters).

THE SECTION BELOW CONTAINS THE NAMES OF SOME OF THE KNOWN LEADERS OF THREE ANLO MILITARY DMSIONS/WINGS IN BATTLES, ALBEIT NOT IN EXACT CHRONOLOGICAL
ORDER:

 LEADERS OF DUSHIWALORGO:
The known leaders of Dushiwalorgo (Woewalorgo), the Right Military Wing/Division include: Kordigbe (during the time of the Agudzawo at Keta). When Dushiwalorgo was re-established after the exodus of the Agudzawo to Some, Adedze Gbekle became its new leader. He was succeeded by Godigbe, followed by Kposegi who later left Woe to settle permanently at Anyako. Kposegi was succeeded by Anatsui who served as a regent but never led the Dushiwalorgo to battle. Gbordzor a maternal nephew of Anatsui first reigned as chief of Woe. It is maintained that during the Taleto war (Funu war or Tameklo war), 1885, Gbordzor upgraded his son Antonio to become both chief of Woe and the leader of the right wing division. Other leaders of the Dushiwalorgo include Abofrakuma (real name: De na Atsitso Horsu Efia), Duklui-Atikpo, Azalekor and Haxormene (this is not exhaustive).

 SOME LEADERS OF LASHIBIWALORGO:
The known leaders of the Lashibiwalorgo include: Anyamakpa, Adaku, Atsieku, Dzokoto, Tenge, Lagbo Kofa and Tamakloe (this list is not exhaustive).

 SOME LEADERS OF DOMEWALORGO:
The known leaders of Adortriwalorgo include: Keli, Damadzi, Yevua Kato (Yevu Akoto), Akaba, Subo, Katsriku, Axorlu, Zewu, (this list is not exhaustive).
Please note that due to the historical developments that had culminated in the regrouping of the military divisions/wings, some leaders had served in more than one division (e.g. a record holds that Subo at some point assumed leadership of the Dushiwalorgo).
In reality, the complete list of the leaders of the Anlo military wings should include the names of the founders of all Kaleziwo (war stools) within the Anlo state. This is because initially, title to a stool in Anlo implied distinguished military career and service to the Kingdom. Valour, in the past, was a hallmark of wing leadership in Anlo.

THE ROLE OF AWALORGOAWO IN THE PRESENT DAY ANLO KINGDOM
By the 20th century, inter-ethnic wars had come to an end in Anlo. Since then, the  Awalorgoawo no longer perform military functions but assist in, the development projects such as construction of roads, canals and houses. They also continue to feature heroic music, dance and dramatic performances during installation and coronation of new chiefs, the annual Hogbetsotso festival, and final funeral rites of deceased Anlo traditional leaders. These performances serve as a
means of cultural preservation, education, and an avenue for commemoration and critical reflection of the past experiences and lessons.
