The story of the Ewes and Gas, meaning behind the name “Ayigbe”

In Ghana, the Ewes are at times refered to as "Ayigbe-fuo" by the Akans and "Ayigbe ts3m3ein" by the Ga public. A few people discover this name hostile entire others don't. 


It is accepted that the Ewes and the Gas moved to their current areas around the exact decade. The Ewes initially Settled at Nortsie in present day Togo and started cultivating. They were later joined by the Gas however following a couple of years, the populace expanded impressive and they chose to move to another land they didn't need to share. 


A portion of the Ewes moved from Notsie to cutting edge Ghana in the Volta Region and a portion of the Gas moved to Accra. The Gas who chose to remain (in the current day Togo) were driven by the crown sovereign called "Ayi" and the individuals what left's identity was driven by the lord. The relocating gas deserted a portion of their imperial gear, divine beings and ministers under the watchful eye of Ayi. 


A couple of years after the fact, the ruler kicked the bucket and an appointment was shipped off Ayi to return home with the divine beings and ministers and accept his legitimate spot as lord. At that point, the Gas and Ewe had intermarried and Ayi had been delegated as their ruler. Ayi concluded he would not like to leave his new home and sent the representatives back to the older folks with message, "Yaa k3 am3 ak3, Ayi gb3" 


"Yaa k33 am3 ak3", signifies "Go let them know"… .. in Ga language and "Ayi gb3", signifies "Ayi can't or says no" in Ewe language. The agents took the message back however articulated "Ayi Gb3" as "Ayigbe". The seniors didn't know of what to think about the message as they didn't comprehend the Ewe language. 

Another Ga lord was later introduced, however right up 'til the present time, when the Gas praise their yearly celebration, Homowo, portions of the conventional ceremonies must be done in Togo.
