EAGLE EYES MEDIA 🦅🦅🦅 reports that Anlo Afiadenyigba Youth Council wants the MCE for Keta, Hon. Emmanuel Gemegah to apologise to the chiefs and people of Anlo Afiadenyigba for threatening to boycott developmental projects in Anlo Afiadenyigba based on his own administrative failure.
It's more than a month now but the MCE has refused to comply with the demands from the Anlo Youth Council.
The actions of the MCE are not in line with the Chapter 6 of the Ghana 1992 Constitution and same must be condemned in the strongest term by all.
Below is the full statement:
ANLO-AFIADENYIGBA YOUTH COUNCIL,
P.O. BOX AZ 29,
ANLO-AFIADENYIGBA.
10TH JANUARY, 2023.
THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE
KETA MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY
KETA
Dear Sir,
FALLOUTS FROM A RIGHT TO INFORMATION REQUEST BY HON. GILBERT KORBLA KEKLIE, ASSEMBLY MEMBER FOR DZIEHE - ABLAME ELECTORAL AREA OF ANLO-AFIADENYIGBA
The Anlo-Afiadenyigba Youth Council has become aware of a Right to Information request made by Hon. Gilbert Korbla Keklie, who is the Assembly Member for the Dziehe -Ablame electoral area in Anlo - Afiadenyigba.
Our information is that the honorable Assembly Member used the Right to Information Act which was passed by the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, to request certain pieces of information which will help him in the discharge of his duties as an elected Assembly Member.
We have learnt that the Assembly neglected, failed or refused to provide him with the requested information, for which reason he proceeded to lodge a complaint with the Right to Information Commission.
We learnt again that the RTI Commission having studied the complaint directed the Assembly to furnish the honorable Assembly Member with specific pieces of information, and the assembly once again neglected, failed or refused to comply with the directive from the RTI Commission.
In view of that, we have read and seen media reports that the RTI Commission has imposed sanctions on the Assembly by way of a fine to the tune of Sixty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 60,000.00).
In the wake of the foregoing, we have listened to an interview you granted Keta based Sandcity Radio on Tuesday, 10th January, 2023 between the hours of 7.30am and 10.00am in which you made the following comments;
1. You called on the chiefs and opinion leaders of Anlo-Afiadenyigba to call honorable Keklie to order.
2. You threatened to boycott functions at Anlo-Afiadenyigba to which you will be invited.
3. You also threatened to deny Anlo-Afiadenyigba development projects upon paying the fine.
4. You sought to suggest that no revenue comes to the Keta Municipal Assembly from Anlo-Afiadenyigba.
The Anlo-Afiadenyigba Youth Council would want to react to the above comments attributed to you as follows;
1. We would want you to furnish us with details and particulars of acts of misconduct by Hon. Keklie to guide us to call him to order.
2. We would also want to urge you to make use of the structures and standing orders of the Assembly by reporting to the Public Relations and Complaints Committee of the Assembly which handles cases of misconduct on the part of members and officers of the Assembly, if you truly believe that Hon. Keklie is misconducting himself.
3. We are very shocked, alarmed and scandalized by your threat to boycott functions in Anlo - Afiadenyigba and deny the community development projects, as a result of the fines imposed on the Assembly due to your own negligence, failure or refusal to comply with the law.
4. Instead of going on that tangent, we would want to advise that the General Assembly sets up a committee to investigate the circumstances leading to the imposition of this fine on the assembly, with the view of finding out those officials whose duty it was to provide the requested information but failed to do so. It is our considered opinion that those officials must be held liable for willfully causing financial loss to the assembly and be surcharged accordingly.
5. We are also surprised to hear you insinuate that no revenue comes from our community to the Assembly. Over the years, we were under the impression that apart from the Keta market, Anlo-Afiadenyigba generates the highest revenue to the Assembly. In view of the comments that you made, are we then supposed to retain every revenue that is generated from the community, for instance from the Way Bills?
Sir, with the greatest of respect, we would want to place on record that you have goofed seriously and we would request that you humbly withdraw those comments and apologize to the chiefs and people of Anlo-Afiadenyigba.
Whilst at it, we would like to use this opportunity to remind you of the many promises you made during the 2022 Hogbetsotso Mini Durbar and the 2022 Farmers' Day, both of which were held in Anlo-Afiadenyigba concerning the Anlo - Afiadenyigba Junction - Havedzi road. As you are aware, the citizens of Anlo-Afiadenyigba started mobilising resources towards the road before you informed the world that government has taken over the project which made the residents to stop their contributions.
As you know fully, the contractor has left the site after scrapping the old coaltar and filling some portions with gravel, leaving the road in its current dusty form.
Sir, with all due respect, the current state of the road poses a major health risk to a lot of residents. It is equally affecting businesses and establishments especially the Health Center.
Sir, we would like to call on you to do whatever is within your power to ensure that your promises and assurances are fulfilled. We would suggest that if the entire stretch cannot be tarred immediately, at least the portion from the Afiadenyigba traffic light to the Afiadenyigba Senior High School as well as the stretch from the Afiadenyigba Bridge to Weto Junction should be tarred.
Thank you very much.
