THE “BREKETE” AND “YEWE” CULTS OF SPIRITUAL POSSESSION AND PROTECTION.
(This is not the Article itself)
Who knows any educated person who belong to the BREKETE and YEWE sects and is willing to help me get the facts from the source so I can share this rich tradition with you???
Even a town with predominantly BREKETE or YEWE culture can be a good place to start.
The first step the Europeans took to be able to control our minds was to demonize our beautiful culture and traditions and it worked.
Our traditional spiritual way of life known as “Vodu” has been portrayed by the Western culture as dark and eerie whiles they portray their spiritual way of life as angelic and the only way to our imaginary heaven.
Been researching into the BREKETE and YEWE sects within our Traditional Religious system and their beauty and purpose transcends any kind of misconceptions that exists. But then we rather trumpet the misconceptions and say very little about the beautiful culture are forefathers adored.
And the internet hasn’t got enough clear mind Articles without their personal prejudices smelling all over it.
#BREKETE is a spiritual drumming and dancing ritual popular among the Ewe people and the Northern folks as well. The Brekete Drum is made from a single wood which is hollowed and the two sides stretched with animal skin with a snare at one end.
BREKETE is believed to originate in the 1930s and from the North since the drum is also called BREKETE in the North according to a man Articles I sighted. Would confirm this after I’ve done a proper research.
#YEWE is older than BREKETE within the Ewe spiritual sects and it is one of the most powerful. It is dedicated to the worship of God through the “Thunder energies” in which “Hebieso” rules Supreme next to God which is called Mawuga Sogbolisa.
YEWE has been referred to as a secret society which has a high reverence for Moral values and a healthy relationship between members. And they punish those who do evil both morally and physically.
The YEWE dancing is different in form from any other Ewe dance like Agbadza and it is unique and very beautiful to watch. And when the Dancers get possessed is something magical to watch.
Both BREKETE and YEWE are used to invoke spirits and deities to protect members from evil people and bad situations. And both sects abhor using your spiritual powers to do evil as well as highly uphold moral values.
#Akpenami.
Note; Still waiting to be pointed in the direction of the most powerful BREKETE and YEWE cults in my Ewe land.
