The Lions Clubs International District 418 Ghana has held a free diabetes screening exercise for about 700 people in the Keta municipality.
The Chairman of the District Diabetes Awareness Committee of the LIONS Clubs, Professor Emeritus Peter Tuffuo Asubonteng said diabetes was one of the silent killers across the globe.
To reverse the trend, he said, it was important for people to screen voluntarily for diabetes.
“Even children as young as 12 suffer from diabetes,” he added.
Professor Asubonteng explained that the exercise which took place at the forecourt of the municipal assembly, was in line the commitment of LIONS to serve humanity unconditionally.
“We need healthy people to have a healthy nation,” he maintained.
Professor Asubonteng said last year the LIONS carried out a similar exercise in Kumasi.
He said the LIONS followed up health screenings with the provision of medications, and organised an activity every month to serve the people.
In all, 127 LIONS and LEOs helped in the screening exercise.
