“TOGBENYA” HEADGEAR EWE-ANLO TRADITIONALLY WOVEN HEADGEAR OR HAT

“TOGBENYA” HEADGEAR EWE-ANLO TRADITIONALLY WOVEN HEADGEAR OR HAT
#Togbenya literally means “The ear has refused to hear” and is an Ewe-Anlo traditionally woven headgear or hat, which is won over the head to cover the ears.

It is one of the few traditional Ewe costumes with a beautiful cultural relevance for the Ewe people and we need to find a way to make it transcend generations.
It is woven with 2 sticks and yarns 🧶 and we used to have Artisans who were master weavers! Knew one man in Akatsi who was known for weaving Togbenya.
Togbenya is usually won with the traditional large shorts with big pockets which we call #Dzokoto, and the big shirts known as #Jumpa.
The 3 costumes (Togbenya hat, Dzokoto shorts and Jumpa shirts) with a Royal sandals also known as #Fiaforkpa, is all a typical Anlo man needed in ancient times to woo the most beautiful Lady in the village or town. It was the “guy guy” dressing of the time.
Who knows anyone who still weaves Togbenya? I need one for myself.

#Akpe!!!
