The unsung Hero: AMEGÃ LƐ̃

The unsung Hero: AMEGÃ LƐ̃
During the great exodus from Ŋɔtsie, DUTƆ ƲENYA was aided by some great hunters who acted as "Gbetakpɔlawo". Notable among these great warrior-hunters were: ATƆGOLO, ADELADZẼA and ƉƆƉI FUGÃ (KWAWU).

KWAWU ƉƆƉI FUGÃ, son of KLI of KLIGBONU (Kli was a kingmaker from  Agɔkɔli's lineage of Ŋɔtsie, progenitor of KLEVIE clan of Aŋlɔ) had a biological sister called KOKUI. KOKUI begat AMEGÃ LƐ̃ and TETE ƉI.

AMEGÃ LƐ̃ did not travel with his maternal uncle ƉƆƉI and the DUTƆ ƲENYA faction during the mass  escape from Ŋɔtsie. He travelled with the Gã Adaŋgmes from Ŋɔtsie comprising the Aklɔbɔwo (Krobos), Gɛ̃wo (Gas), and the Adawo (Adas) and settle in Aklɔbɔme (Kroboland) somewhere around LƐKPOGUNƆ now Legon.

One faithful day, when Ɖɔɖi was on his usual hunting spree on his Ƒununyigbã (where he previously discovered a coloured old woman who later became fetish MAMA GBƆTONYA: Gbɔtonya megbea sese o, nya manyomanyo la nyatɔe wogblɔnɛ na) he met a lost hunter in the fetish Mama Gbɔtonya forest and aimed to take him down. The wanderer, Adela Kpetekplebi pleaded with Ɖɔɖi to spare his life.

Ɖɔɖi inquired from Kpetekplebi where he came from and Kpetekplebi mentioned Ada Krobo. Curious Ɖɔɖi gave a description of his nephew he had lost during the blood-and-guts exodus from Ŋɔtsie to Aŋlɔland. Kpetekplebi with great memory, instantly remembered his close friend who was a man of great authority in his town and was cocksure LƐ̃ was the one Ɖɔɖi was referring to, as Ɖɔɖi's description match perfectly with Amegã Lɛ̃. Kpetekplebi assured Ɖɔɖi that Lɛ̃ settled with his family in his hometown. Ɖɔɖi offered hospitality and subsequently pleaded with Adela Kpetekplebi to return and fetch him his nephew, Amegã Lɛ̃.

Upon his returned to Lɛkpogunɔ, Adela Kpetekplebi requested of LƐ̃ to join his maternal uncle Ɖɔɖi. At that time, LƐ̃ was at loggerheads with the Krobos over a missing DADI YIBƆ (Black Cat) which belongs to the overlord of Kroboland which the king wrongly suspected was killed by a subject of LƐ̃. In exchange of the the black cat, the king demanded for a human and nothing less, as a compensation. This resulted in a heated quarrels between LƐ̃ and Krobos.

LƐ̃ cleverly gave in to the demands of the Krobo king but requested of the king to grant him access to cut down trees in the forest to crave CANOES and sell and the proceeds from the venture would be used to purchase the human he demanded for which the king agreed.

As LƐ̃ was busy settling the cat issue and carving, he requested Kpetekplebi in the meantime, to send his regards to his uncle and return with a personal belonging of his uncle Ɖɔɖi to convince him. After few weeks, Kpekplebi came back to LƐ̃ with Ɖɔɖi's famous "ALƆTSINUGA" (armbangle). LƐ̃ knew it was from his uncle but to be cocksure, LƐ̃ summoned his family and held up the armbangle and the older children identified it as belonging to their grandfather,  ƉƆƉI.

LƐ̃ got married to EƲI from Tɔŋu Ɖɔfɔ after the demise of his first wife. Eʋi was a very industrious woman.

LƐ̃ and his sons worked at carving the canoes. When the canoes were ready, with help of Kpetekplebi, LƐ̃ migrated with his family and reunited with his uncle, Ɖɔɖi in the Mama Gbɔtonya forest.

On the third day of their arrival, after supper, LƐ̃ met his uncle Ɖɔɖi in camera and revealed his plan to take the life of Kpetekplebi to him, for fear Kpetekplebi might return to reveal his new hideout to the Krobos on his return to Kroboland.

LƐ̃ owned a domestic slave called AKRAMA and to him he entrusted that atrocious act. Kpetekplebi was murdered and buried in unidentified shallow grave.

Afterwards,  Ɖɔɖi returned with LƐ̃ and his family to Aŋlɔgã. Mama Eʋi, Lɛ̃'s wife became Ɖɔnuiwɔla at Aŋlɔga. She sold household needs, and also cooked foods like Akatsa and Kokui.

When Amegã LƐ̃ became popular in Aŋlɔga, Ɖɔɖi gave to his nephew a large slice of his Klevie-clan land at Aŋlɔga. The LƐ̃ settlement at Aŋlɔga became know as LASIBIKOME and their clan name became ƲIƑEMEAWO (Eʋi's children) in Aŋlɔ.

AMEGÃ LƐ̃ was elevated to the leadership of the Aŋlɔ Military Left Wing division because of his bravery. From then till now the Aŋlɔ Military Left Wing division has come to be known as LASHIBI - LƐ̃ SHISHIBISHI (LƐ̃'S Brigade) After the demise of LƐ̃, the leadership of the wing fell on AGUADZAWO of Keta.

AMEGÃ LƐ̃ is remembered in Aŋlɔ's history for introduction of canoes LƐ̃ƲU in Aŋlɔ to argument the existing AGƆƲU and the nickname "FUGA" which he conferred on his maternal uncle Ɖɔɖi Kwawu after he saw his uncle under savage mosquito attack at night at the Mama Gbɔtonya forest. He remarked: "Fu ga he kpem nèle alea?"
