Some Eʋe Names
Almost every Eʋe name has a meaning or it is given for a purpose. The following may be singled out.

A). Dzikudziku or Dzikuidzikui Ŋkɔwo ( Names): These  are names given to children whose parents had stillbirths or neonatal deaths in the past before giving birth to these children.
It was believed that the antidote to the premature deaths is to give them weird names such as names of objects, animals and others. Sometimes the order to do so came from a shrine or from a soothsayer. Examples are:
1. Nukuku: a dead thing
2. Alekuku: a dead sheep
3. Aɖukpo : Refuse dump
4. Gbetsonu: A Sharp edge for cutting bush or grass
5. Kpexɔ: Stone or block building 

B). Shrine Names: These are names shrines give to children who the deities had saved from dying as babies. 

1.  Klu:  male
2.  Kosi: female
3. Kosiƒee: Sister of Kosi
4.Kluƒee: Sister of Klu
5. Abotsi or Aboetsi
6.  Xanu: Sweeping thing or be sorrowful
7. Gbelɔnu: Dustbin or dustpan
8. Dzatu or Dzatugbe 
9. Dzanu
10. Dzanuƒee
11. Ekeetete

C). Insinuation Names
Names given to cast aspersions or inuendos 
1. Mekpɔwovɔ: I see them no more
2. Anɔwoha: I live beside them
3. Menyaŋuaɖo: I know the response or I can give the response 
4. Ahetɔwonya: Poor persons' case 
5. Ameɖekunadzro: humans die suddenly 
6. Nyatsito: the matter is buried 
7. Amelɔlawovɔ: lovers have finished or there are lovers no more
8. Lɔnyelali: My lover lives
9. Dzinyadonawo: they have the heart 
10. Axaleta: because of that 
11. Amemetianya: case of discrimination 
12. Meveye oo: It doesn't really pain me
13. Axayedewo: I avoid them
14. Donyeku: Vagina is death 
15. Nyemesusueo or Nyemebuio: I didn't expect it or I didn't imagine it
16. Keledɔme: hatred is hidden in the stomach or there is no art to find the mind's construction in the face 
17. Minamɔwo: Give them way or keep a distance from them or avoid them.
18. Alɔliebu: my guidance is gone or missing
19. Azɔlibu: my steps are missing 
20. Nyamesɔto:  bad news 
21. Hlɔfɔbu: the family step is missing 

D). Yeʋe or Tɔhonɔ Names: Names given to worshippers of the thunder God called Yeʋe or Tɔhonɔ

1. Ameteƒe : A male child born after his father or uncle who died
2. Megbenya : A female child whose mother died immediately after giving birth to her or she was born after a  female member of  the family died

4. Mɔmesi : born on the road
5. Lumɔ or Lumɔsi: born with the face down
6. Xevi: born with leg presentation
7. Aliƒosi: born on a boundary
