Keta is a beautiful place. She has a soul, spirit and history.
What you see here has not always been the home of one of Ghana's oldest missions. This is actually the remains of the old UAC, a trading company, believed to be the mother of Unilever in Ghana. UAC, Lever Brothers and other sister companies were merged in 1992 in Ghana to form Unilever Ghana Limited.
When my Grandma, Auntie Paulina Attipoe (may her sweet soul rest in peace) took me to the E.P. Mission in 1991, what was left of the original chapel were only pillars of the entrance. The entire building was gone by then. The church had built a new chapel on the same premises, which was also taken by the sea later.
I still have memories of where we stood when grandma pointed to a lonely canoe far on the sea, and said to me, "that was where grandpa's house used to be".
The sea has eaten a lot, but Keta is still a beautiful place.
